Lois and David Stulberg Gallery
ABOUT:
Roots and Resilience: Art for Change is a dynamic group exhibition that centers the work of African American artists as vital agents of cultural preservation, resistance, and transformation. Curated and designed by Ringling College’s Exhibition Design and Management course led by Director and Chief Curator Tim Jaeger, the exhibition explores how creative expression becomes a powerful tool for storytelling, activism, and imagining new futures.
The exhibition features influential artists such as Faith Ringgold, Amina Robinson, Jacob Lawrence, and Romare Bearden—visionaries whose work reshaped American art through narratives grounded in the Black experience. Alongside them, contemporary artists including Kandy G. Lopez and Eme Omeh contribute fresh perspectives that deepen ongoing conversations about identity, representation, and resilience.
Spanning painting, printmaking, photography, and mixed media, Roots and Resilience not only honors the rich legacy of African American artistry but also highlights the importance of intergenerational dialogue. In this space, art serves as both a bridge and a catalyst—connecting history to the present, and vision to change.
