ABOUT:
The Fine Arts Department of Ringling College of Art + Design is pleased to present Backstage at Crossley Gallery.
Backstage is explored here as a space that is not a rehearsal for what becomes visible, but something real in itself. It is where bodies reset, identities are formed, and rules are tested before being broken in public. Backstage is preparation, but also damage, pleasure, excess, and survival. The works center around what is usually offstage: queerness as an action, performance as something learned collectively, and community formed through nights, friendships, and shared intensity. This space behind the performance is where identities, ideas, and practice become unraveled.
This is where it starts. Everything else is just the show.
