Tradition Reimagined: Illustration Faculty Traditional

January 23 - February 28, 2026
Selby Foundation Illustration Gallery

ABOUT:
Tradition Reimagined brings together a diverse group of Illustration Department faculty whose practices are rooted in traditional painting techniques while actively challenging and expanding their boundaries. This group exhibition celebrates the enduring power of representational art while highlighting each artist’s unique approach to storytelling, process, and visual interpretation.

The featured works reflect a broad spectrum of styles—from classical realism to experimental narrative. While grounded in time-honored methods, these paintings reimagine tradition through contemporary lenses, offering fresh perspectives on identity, mythology, culture, and the everyday.

The exhibition underscores the Illustration Department’s deep commitment to craft and creative innovation, showcasing the professional practices of faculty who mentor and inspire the next generation of artists. Tradition Reimagined invites viewers to consider how tradition is not static, but a living, evolving conversation—one that continues to inform, provoke, and transform both artist and audience.
