Nancy Hartman: Dreams and Fancies

This exhibition brings together works rooted in memory, materiality, and the passage of time. Through embroidery and assemblage, Nancy Hartman (68') transforms fabric, thread, found objects, and inherited materials into intimate repositories of memory and emotion.

Traditionally associated with domestic practice, embroidery becomes a contemporary language for exploring personal experience and cultural history. Hartman works intuitively, allowing color, texture, rhythm, and material to guide each composition rather than relying on preliminary drawings.

References to nature, history, music, and personal experience recur throughout the exhibition, giving emotional weight to seemingly modest materials. A fragment of lace, a button, a stitch, or a worn surface can suggest an entire history.

These intricate, tactile works invite viewers to slow down and consider what objects hold, what memory preserves, and how the traces of our lives can communicate without words.
