january 6 - march 22, 2024
Thompson Alumni + Skylight Galleries

Omar Chacon (b. Bogota, Colombia, 1979) is a contemporary artist known for his vibrant and dynamic paintings.  After receiving a BFA from Ringling College in 2002, he continued his studies at San Francisco Art Institute where he earned his MFA in 2004. He currently lives and works in Queens, NY.

He is represented in the U.S. by Margaret Thatcher Projects (New York, NY), Fouladi Projects (San Francisco, CA), Robischon Gallery (Denver, CO), and Brunnhofer Galerie (Linz, Austria).  His works are in public and private collections nationally and internationally.

Chacon’s abstract paintings combine geometric and organic elements that build intricate compositions that beckon the viewer to take a closer look.  His studio practice incorporates paint pouring on a separate surface and when it is dried it is cut into mosaic-like tiles that then migrate to the canvas.  Through this strategy, he invokes concepts of the masses.

Chromatic Echoes is a unique curation of multiple periods and styles that offers an intimate perspective into Chacon’s life as a painter.
